Alliant University Academic AI Use Guidelines for Students
To promote academic integrity while allowing appropriate AI support, the following guidelines apply in this course.
Permitted AI Uses
- Grammar and spelling correction
- Formatting and style suggestions
- Brainstorming or idea generation
All final work must demonstrate your understanding of the course content and critical thinking skills.
When Using AI, You Must:
- Ensure your work demonstrates a personal understanding of the course materials
- Fact-check all AI-provided information including sources
- Include a statement of disclosure (e.g., "This assignment received assistance from [AI tool name].")
- Cite any AI-generated content using APA format where applicable. Example:
ChatGPT (2025). [Brief description of content]. ChatGPT [version if known]. https://chat.openai.com - Maintain and be prepared to submit your original draft or AI prompt if requested
AI Use Is Not Permitted For:
- Submitting AI-generated content as your own without revision
- Using AI tools on exams or assessments without instructor approval
- Sharing private or sensitive information with public AI platforms
- Using AI to bypass course engagement, learning activities, or university policies
Undisclosed or improper use of AI may result in a grade penalty, academic remediation, or referral to the Student Evaluation and Review Committee (SERC). If unsure whether AI use is permitted for a specific assignment, contact your instructor before submitting.
